By: Smileway Dental

Every humans body is susceptible to infection, including our mouth. If someone has an infection, its important to get a treatment immediately before it becomes worse.

In the case of our mouth, infected gums can be painful and could be a sign of a more serious condition you are not aware of. It could be either periodontitis, gingivitis or other diseases.

Here are the simple but effective ways to reduce the risk of having gum infection.

  1. Visit your dentist regularly.

It is a must to visit your dentist so they can check the overall condition of your mouth. They can also help you remove built up tartar or plaque in between your teeth. There are some areas of our teeth that no matter how good we are in brushing, there will still be left over dirt that only the dentist can see and remove as they have the tools suitable for it.

They will also advice you on how to better keep your teeth and gums healthy to avoid infections.

  1. Brushing your teeth daily.

We all know at least 2 minutes of tooth brushing 2 times daily, keeps our teeth clean, remove excess food, improve ones breath, keeping our teeth safe from cavity and any sort of gum infections.

  1. Flossing as a habit.

Using a dental floss is an effective and easy tool to use to reach the areas that toothbrush cannot reach which includes small gaps and tight spaces between teeth. These areas usually retain excess food debris as well as the sugars and acids from drinks throughout the day. Flossing everyday helps to clean out these tough areas.

  1. Use mouthwash

Considering to use a mouthwash is not a bad idea at all as we know that mouthwash can kill bacteria that cause plaque. There’s a lot of mouthwash available on the market and you can ask your dentist which is suitable for your needs.

Always remember that prevention is better than cure. It’s important to take good care of our teeth as well as our gums.
