Fluorosis

Dental fluorosis is a condition where teeth is hypomineralized due to ingestion of high concentrations of fluoride during tooth formation.

Fluorosis of teeth may appear as:
• Teeth with white spots or flecks on the surface (mild)
• Yellowish or brown discoloration on the surface of teeth (moderate)
• Pitted or brown lesions on the teeth that may look like cavities (severe)

Causes
Dental fluorosis may occur due to
• Ingestion of toothpaste during childhood
• Drinking water with high fluoride concentration
• Consumption of fluoridated food products
Management
Mild fluorosis- teeth whitening is suitable to improve the appearance of teeth
Moderate and fluorosis- veneers can help restore teeth to provide better aesthetics
