Why My Teeth Stain?

Your smile is one of the first thing people notice about you, but having yellow or brown stain on your teeth can be embarrassing. We are taught from young that all we have to do to maintain good dental health is to brush twice a day, but unfortunately brushing doesn’t resolve every issue. There are few reason why our teeth maybe discolored despite good brushing habits. Food and habits that cause your teeth to get stain:

Tea or Coffee: Contains such kind of plant extracts that have very high tendency of sticking as stain on your teeth if taken too often. No matter what type of tooth paste you use, no matter how you brush these can stain your teeth.

Smoking: Tobacco smoke contains nicotine and tar these two ingredients are the main culprit for smoking stain. Tar has a black staining and nicotine has a yellowish staining property. So a smoker will have blackish and line at the junction of the gums and tooth yellowish hue on the teeth.

Red wine: Red wine is made up of grapes which have a natural colors this natural colors will bind with the tooth surface and result of teeth staining but this process is low and mild and occurs to who consume red wine regularly.

Natural aging: Our teeth yellow over time it’s a natural part of aging process that the white protective coating wear down over time. This is why they are more likely to became yellow or discolored.

Trauma to the tooth: If there has been severe trauma to a tooth that causes the nerve inside of it to die, it could cause it to begin to change color after sometime. The nerve gives life and keeps the teeth looking healthy. Brushing your teeth doesn’t have much of an affect when this happen because the discoloration is happening from inside of the tooth. Medication: Some medication have been associated with tooth staining. Certain antibiotics like tetracycline can cause staining particularly for young patient. Avoid certain food and drinks when possible we are asking you not to give up your morning coffee or tea but just reduce the intake of it as much as possible.
Drink or rinse with water after you consumed a tooth staining food or drink. Swirling water around your mouth can drastically help clear away the acid of staining.
