It shows not only infections but also cracks, fractures, and abnormalities without surgical exploration. This diagnostic imaging is able to show your bodies anatomy such as location of nerves and its canals, joint condition, bone thickness and even periodontal status. Without this imaging, dentist would not be able to confirm their diagnosis and the patients cmedical condition accurately. 

 

Even though x-rays contains radiation, oral x-rays contains the lowest level of radiation and is safe for the human body. Not all conditions require an X-ray but most conditions which are obscured during routine examination should be confirmed through X-rays for better accuracy.
